Ultrasonic testing method for titanium clad copper bar

1.Scope

The method is suitable for confirming the ultrasonic flaw detection of the cladding quality of titanium clad copper rods.

ultrasonic test

2.Flaw detection equipment
2.1 flaw detector
Using the A-type pulse reflection ultrasonic flaw detector, the performance of the instrument should meet the technical specifications specified in JB/T 10061.
2.2 probe
Straight probe with a frequency of 2.5MHz~5MHz and a wafer diameter of 10mm~20mm
2.3 coupling agent
Use clean water or oil as a coupling agent
2.4 standard test stick
Select the same material as the material to be inspected, the same size, acoustic performance and fully composite bar as the sensitivity adjustment standard test bar

3. flaw detection
3.1 flaw detection method
Bottom-wave multiple reflection method for contact or non-contact inspection
3.2 Determination of the flaw detection surface
Regardless of the rectangular, square or drum-shaped bar, any axial plane is determined as the flaw detection surface for comprehensive flaw detection.
3.3 Detection sensitivity
Adjust the flaw detection equipment so that the fifth bottom backlash of the standard test stick is 50% of the vertical scale of the flaw detector screen, and use this as the detection sensitivity.
3.4 flaw detection speed
When detecting, the scanning speed of the probe is generally not more than 150mm/s.

4. Assessment of flaw detection results
4.1 Confirmation of the composite area
The back surface of the flaw detection part is clearly displayed, and when the titanium-copper composite interface does not show echo, the part is confirmed as a composite area.
4.2 Confirmation of non-cladding area
When the echo of the bottom surface of the flaw detection part is reduced or disappeared, and the echo of the titanium-copper composite interface appears, the part is confirmed to be in the non-cladding area.
4.3 Confirmation of axial boundary of non-cladding area
The axial boundary of the non-cladding area shall be at the center of the probe when the probe is scanned axially until the echo of the titanium-copper composite interface disappears.
4.4 Bar quality products
The conditions listed in the table below are that the bar is confirmed to be a qualified product.

cladding rod area

non-cladding axial length

Within 100mm of each end

Unit non-cladding axial length <10mm

The Cumulative length of a plane <20mm

Others part

Unit non-cladding axial length <50mm

The Cumulative length per meter of a plane <100mm

The roughness of the flaw detection surface or the change of the bottom echo caused by the copper core does not affect the final confirmation of the cladding quality of the bar.
