MMO Titanium Anode

The titanium anode is the anode in the titanium-based metal oxide coating. According to the surface catalytic coating, it has an oxygen evolution function and a chlorine evolution function. Titanium has good electrical conductivity, small change in pole pitch, strong corrosion resistance, good mechanical strength and processing performance, long service life, low cost, and good electrocatalytic performance for electrode reaction.

The role of the metal oxide coating on the titanium anode is: low resistivity, good electrical conductivity (titanium itself has poor electrical conductivity), stable chemical composition of the precious metal coating, stable crystal structure, stable electrode size, corrosion resistance Good, long life, good electrocatalytic performance, help to reduce the overpotential of oxygen evolution and chlorine evolution, and save energy

The metal oxide coated titanium electrode is distinguished according to the anodic precipitation gas in the electrochemical reaction, and the chlorine anode for the precipitation of the chlorine gas on the anode is called a chlorination anode, such as ruthenium-Iridium coated titanium electrode; An oxygen anode, such as Iridium-tantalum coated titanium electrode.

There are usually two coatings for titanium anodes:

1. ruthenium-Iridium coating (Ru-Ir)

2. Iridium-tantalum coating (Ir-Ta)

Application areas:

1. ruthenium-IridiumTitanium anode: chlorate, caustic soda industrial production swimming pool disinfection sodium hypochlorite production seawater electrolysis industrial water treatment sewage treatment

2. Iridium-tantalumTitanium anode: metal foil, electrolytic copper foil, cathodic protection, organic matter electrolysis synthesis, etching solution regeneration and recovery, cyclone electrolysis, hydrometallurgy, HHO generator and other industries

Take the electrolysis of copper chloride (CuCl2) solution as an example:

CuCl2 is a strong electrolyte and is easily soluble in water, and ionizes in aqueous solution to form Cu2+ and Cl-.

CuCl2===Cu2++2Cl-

electrolysis

Before energization, Cu2+ and Cl- move freely in the water; after energization, these freely moving ions are changed to directional movement under the action of an electric field. The positively charged Cu2+ in the solution moves toward the cathode, and the negatively charged chloride ions move toward the anode.

At the cathode, the copper ions acquire electrons and are reduced to copper atoms to cover the cathode; at the anode, the chloride ions lose electrons and are oxidized to chlorine atoms, and the two are combined to form chlorine molecules, which are discharged from the anode.

Cathode: Cu2++2e-==Cu

Anode: 2Cl--2e-==Cl2↑

Advantages of ruthenium-IridiumTitanium anode:

(1) The anode size is stable, and the distance between the electrodes does not change during the electrolysis process, which can ensure that the electrolysis operation is performed under the condition that the cell voltage is stable;

(2) The working voltage is low, so the power consumption is small, and the DC power consumption can be reduced by 10% - 20%;

(3) Long working life;

(4) It can overcome the problem of dissolution of graphite anode and lead anode, avoiding contamination of electrolyte and cathode products, and thus improving the purity of metal products;

(5) can increase the current density;

(6) In the production of chlor-alkali, after the titanium-coated ruthenium electrode, the product quality is high, the chlorine gas has high purity, does not contain CO2, and the alkali concentration is high, which can save steam for heating and save energy consumption;

(7) Strong corrosion resistance;

(8) The short circuit problem after the deformation of the lead anode can be avoided, thereby improving the current efficiency;

(9) The titanium electrode is light in weight and can reduce labor intensity;

(10) The shape is easy to manufacture and can be highly accurate;

(11) The substrate can be used repeatedly.

Advantages of Iridium-tantalum Titanium anode:

1. Extremely high corrosion resistance.

2. The current efficiency is high, and the oxygen evolution overpotential is ≤1.5V.

3. Long working life and high electrocatalytic oxidation activity.

4. After the electrode is inactive, the substrate can be reused.

5. It can carry large current density and high production efficiency.
