Cathodic protection: An anti-corrosion measure that protects a protected device from earth to a negative potential in order to prevent corrosion of the communication line or equipment.

The MMO anode used in the forced current cathodic protection system is usually thermally sintered on a titanium substrate with a stable, corrosion-resistant, high-conductivity stable oxide such as Ir, Ta, and the thickness is generally between 1 - 1.2 μm.
