The elastic modulus of porous stainless steel implants is very similar to that of bone. Using mechanically alloyed 18Cr-8Mn-0.9N powders, powder metallurgical Cr-Mn-N stainless steel foams were created through 20 hours of sintering at 1,100°C [96]. Porous stainless steels outperform 316L samples in terms of anti-friction properties, as demonstrated by a dry friction study and microstructural observation of the material's pore structures.
