MMO Titanium anode for Cathode protection

MMO Titanium anode for Cathode protection

Titanium ribbon anode For pipe Cathode Protection use, the wire anode, plate anode, tube/tubular anode all can be done.

Product Introduction

MMO (Mixed Metal Oxide) titanium anodes are key components in impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems. They are widely used to protect buried or submerged steel structures such as pipelines, storage tanks, and offshore installations from corrosion.

These anodes are especially suitable for environments with high soil resistivity or damaged coating pipelines, as well as large-area applications such as tank bottom protection systems.

Working Principle

Cathodic protection systems operate by applying DC current to the structure:

Titanium MMO anode acts as the auxiliary anode

The protected steel structure becomes the cathode

Electrochemical reactions are controlled to suppress corrosion

During operation:

Oxygen evolution and chlorine evolution reactions occur at the anode

Aggressive ions in soil or water (SO₄²⁻, Cl⁻, CO₃²⁻, OH⁻, H⁺) are stabilized through controlled electrochemistry

The structure is continuously protected from corrosion damage

Ribbon Mesh Anode System

A commonly used structure is the titanium MMO ribbon mesh anode system, formed by:

Ribbon-shaped MMO-coated titanium strip

Cross-welded with titanium conductive strips

Assembled into a mesh or grid system

This structure is widely used for:

Storage tank bottom cathodic protection

Large surface-area grounding systems

New tank construction projects
