Grade 5 titanium tube

Grade 5 titanium tube

The most widely used high strength titanium alloy is grade 5 titanium tube, which is an alpha-beta alloy. The alloy has excellent corrosion resistance in alkaline, chemical, and chloride concentrates in addition to its excellent mechanical strength and low density (4.42 kg/dm3).

Product Introduction

Grade 5 titanium tube (Ti-6Al-4V, UNS R56400, also known as TC4) is the most widely used high-strength titanium alloy. It is an α-β titanium alloy combining excellent mechanical strength, low density, and outstanding corrosion resistance, making it suitable for demanding aerospace, marine, chemical, and industrial applications.

Key Properties

Low density & high specific strength
Density: ~4.43 g/cm³ - higher than aluminum, but significantly lower than steel, copper, and nickel, offering excellent strength-to-weight performance.

Excellent corrosion resistance
Grade 5 titanium exhibits outstanding resistance in oxidizing, neutral, and mildly reducing environments. It performs well in:

Chloride media

Alkaline solutions

Many chemical processing environments
Titanium and its alloys are resistant to most oxidizing acids, reducing acids, and many organic acids at low concentrations and temperatures.

Good heat resistance
ASTM B338 / B861 Grade 5 titanium tubes can be used continuously up to 400 °C. With appropriate processing, some applications allow service at higher temperatures with reduced mechanical strength but improved ductility and fracture toughness.

Excellent low-temperature performance
Grade 5 titanium maintains good ductility and toughness at temperatures as low as –196 °C to –253 °C, avoiding cold brittleness. This makes it an ideal material for cryogenic vessels and tanks.

Typical Applications

Aerospace structural components

Marine and offshore oil & gas tubing

Chemical and petrochemical processing

Heat exchangers

High-performance industrial piping systems

Titanium Ti-6Al-4V tubes show excellent resistance in marine and offshore oil & gas environments and are widely used in seawater and corrosive service conditions.
